Here's What I Picked Up From Priceline During Sale
Who could resist a flat 40% off on the whole of drugstore range. Well Priceline does spoil us from time to time and last month it was their entire cosmetics range on sale and here is a write-up of what I grabbed. I did get around to using most so I will jot down a few lines in their defence or offence.
L'OREAL PARIS Colour Riche La Palette in Nude Rose - I had been meaning to pick this one up for quite sometime but wasn’t too sure after I had read the mixed reviews online. Well the shades in the rose palette were really enticing so the 40% off was a good enough push to grab it off the shelves.
The palette has some great shades with a few mauves, browns and greys thrown in there to create a perfect smoky as well as subtle nude look. I have worn it over a month now and though I am not entirely chuffed about the pigmentation of a few, I kind of like the palette as a whole as it provides a nice alternate to the routine browns that I tend to go for. I didn’t find the fall off that much to tag them as chalky but I did find that the lighter shades do struggle to add any color to my lids but I guess the palette is not called “Nude Rose” for no reason. I do genuinely wish they were more pigmented to create the smoldering smoky eyes but it is a nice day to day palette and I love a muted yet sculpted look. I adore my blending brush but I tend to gravitate towards my flat ones to get a good punch from this palette.
Next up is BOURJOIS Contour Edition Lip Liner in Nude Wave. It is wonderfully pigmented and super easy to apply lip liners from Bourjois. It is not a table turning formula but it is really really good and gives a loud bang for its buck, stays on well and has a great color payoff. It didn’t last through a meal but I find that If I blotted it twice and then went on with a lip gloss, it looked great and stayed put. Now I wish I had picked up another shade but oh well Priceline ain’t going nowhere!
L'OREAL PARIS Superliner Smokissime – I was quite intrigued by what was written on the product - A powder liner that creates a quick smoky look. I was wanting the brown smoke shade but since none was available, I picked up the black one. I was looking forward to it but it has let me down big time. I have absolutely no idea what L’Oreal was thinking when they made it or even tested it before pushing into the market. There is no way you can get a sane look out of it without any aid from a blending brush and if I have to end up using a brush then why do I need this one color at all, I’d rather use my eye shadow palettes to get some dimension at least. There is way too much product coming out of this one and the more you try to blend it with its own sponge, the more products you end up applying so this one was a big mess.
Next up is drugstore mascaras and over the years most have let me down so buying a mascara without going through the reviews is just not on the cards anymore. So when it was time to pick up some drugstore mascaras, I relied on the good ol’ google guru to show me some great reviews and MAYBELLINE Lash Sensational Mascara came up again and again. The second recommendation came from GlamlifeGuru who just adores Physicians formula products and their Organic Wear Jumbo Lash Mascara is her all time favourite so that’s how these two ended up in my basket. Physicians Formula one I love, a very lightweight formula, doesn’t clump the lashes and a good coat or two really defines, volumises and lengthens. On the other hand, Maybelline one just fell face down. This just didn’t work for me, all my lashes got stuck together and looked short and stumpy and gluey. My first application went quite unfavourably odd and since then every morning I kind of want to pick it up and give it another try but naah..just simple naah …
Nude by Nature brushes had stolen my heart since the day they were launched and I had been eyeing them or more like ogling them so as soon as the 40% off came on, I was first in the store to pick them up. When was I ever going to get 7 makeup brushes for A$22 so I grabbed the Essential Collection Brush Set 1 that has 7 brushes ideal for travelling. Also my YSL powder brush is now 7 years old and has started coughing a fibre or two every time I use it, thus I picked up a powder brush for 18 bucks. They just don’t feel like drugstore brushes and have a very lush feel to them.
Talking about Nude by Nature, I was quite attracted to the Virgin blush shade so picked up the full size packaging but then I noticed that there was this value pack that had their best selling powder formulas ( the veil, blush and the bronzer) in great try out sizes and it made all the more sense to pick it instead. I gave the blush and mineral veil a try and I am super impressed by how finely milled it is. It is a great takeaway kit for a weekend getaway or a holiday.
Next up is L'OREAL'S Colour Riche Moisture Matte Lipstick in Flaming Kiss and this is just a marvellous velvet feeling formula that gives a solid pigment punch. I did wear it out for a dinner date and found that it did bleed without a lip liner underneath. Also it didn’t last during all the munching and crunching but remained as a rather nice stain. All the long lasting matte lipsticks/lipstains these days have spoilt us, so if something doesn’t stay on the lips for yonks, gets categorised as “not so good” but if we take a step back and see from where we have come, this is one of the best feeling matte lipsticks I have tried in a very long time. Its nourishing and hydrating and doesn’t make my lips shrink.
Last but in no manner the least is L'OREAL’s SuperLiner Perfect Slim Liner that has a very fine tip (0.4 mm). It gives immense control which is facilitated even more by the control grip on the product. I am totally rubbish with eyeliners and yet I refuse to give up. Even the most naïve first timer can get their flicks straight and sane looking with this tip. I am more of a brown lover but I really don’t mind a black if the flick is this amazing.
So here are my latest drugstore pickups that I am using quite a fair bit in my makeup routine these days and as always Priceline does a great job with coming up with insane discounts for beauty fanatics like me.
