On a Mission to Find a Terrific Mascara
My mascara gear goes through phases. Phases that range from the save to the spend end of the spectrum. Since mascaras have to be phased out every 3-4 months, I end up alternating between the drugstore and the high end.
In the last quarter up until Christmas, it was the drugstore rocking my boat so since the beginning of the year, I have been on a mission to find a few good high end mascaras to amp up my mascara wardrobe and here’s a clutch full of my favorites –
- Benefit’s They’re Real – Now who could resist the Swarovski packaging! It was the Christmas special version so it landed up in my bag pretty quickly. This is a wonderful mascara that lengthen and oomphs up the volume in a single coat. No kidding with the single coat claim here. It thickens the lashes substantially and hold the curl really well. The ball at the tip of the brush is a bliss and comes in very handy when trying to reach the innermost or the outermost lashes with great precision. One has to be nifty though as overdoing it can make it clumpy. It is a great mascara overall and does wonders to the lashes and won’t disappoint anyone.
- NARS Audacious – The wand is unique as the well spaced bristles make it perfect for lengthening and separating the lashes but volume-wise it lets down big time. The not so out there volume makes it perfect for everyday wear and the separation instantly gives that wide eyed look. Now I have seen this mascara smudging on very hot days but other than this small qualm, this is a great everyday mascara. I know it won’t cut it for any special night outs but it will keep on lacquering my lashes till it lasts.
- Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Flashes – Wow some packaging there! The glamorous glitzy Hollywood look complements the name very well and the formula within justifies every bit of the showoff. This one hits all the other mascaras out the park - It lengthens, separates and thickens the lashes to the never seen before limits. The formula is quite thick and that is what bring that extra oomph to the volume. I find that my lashes hold the curl well but I can't say that I still find them defying the gravity by the end of the day. For someone like me who’s not so much into fake lashes (not at all in fact), this mascara is a boon and is there to stay.
